The aim of the study was to investigate IL-4, IFN gamma and IgE levels in expired air condensat (EAC)of bronchial asthma (BA) and allergic rhinitis (AR) chIL-dren with sensitization to house dust mites(HDM) allergens. 34 BA and 16 AR patients aged from 4 to 18 years old were included in trial. ELISAmethod with «R&D Diagnostics Inc.» kits was used to investigate IL-$4 and IFN gamma levels; IgE levelwas evaluated by means of «Vector$Best» test systems (Russia). The increase of local IL-4 secretionwas revealed in BA and AR patients (7,68 ± 3,14 and 5,36 ± 1,75 pg/ml respectively), whIL-e the levelof IFN gamma was relatively low (3,92 ± 1,16 pg/ml) with high IL-$4/IFN gamma ratio, especially incases of BA exacerbation (10–30). IgE level in EAC samples of BA and AR patients varied from 5 to 330IU/ml, in these of healthy controls the level was lower than 20 IU/ml in all the cases. No correlationswere found between IgE level and asthma severety and phase. However, the trend towards the correla$tion between HDM levels and IgE (r = 0,38) was revealed. HDM exposure was higher in patients withhigh IL-$4 and IgE levels in EAC. Thus, the increase of IL-$4 and IgE levels in EAC as well as higher IL-$4/IFN gamma ratio are considered to be the markers of allergic inflammation in airways. The use of thesemarkers for selection of patients for local immunotherapy can be discussed.Key words: expired air condensate, IL-04, IFN gamma, IgE.
