Recently the essential role of cytokines in eye diseases' immunopathogenesis has been proved in works of many ophthalmologists. The cytokine concentration can be regarded as a criterion of immune inflammation in the eye. In inflammatory eye diseases pathogenetically unfavorable reactions develop both on local and system levels. The local level of inflammatory cytokines production (in the anterior chamber of the eye, in tear liquid) is often much greater compared to systemic levels in the blood serum suggesting the in-eye synthesis of cytokines. Considering these facts we can suggest the dominating role of the local conflict in inflammatory eye diseases. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2005. Vol. 4, № 2. P. 13-15.)
