In the Note for the chronological Table of the Book of Ezra the name and years of rule of king Ahasuerus (371-359) is specified. A reader, certainly, may have a question: whence these exact figures, also what is he - the king Ahasuerus? In Russian Bible Ahasuerus it is mentioned only once, see Ezra, 4:6, and without any instructions for years of his reign. However in the Scripture original in Jewish (and also in English, in Ukrainian and other Bible translations) Ahasuerus is mentioned not only in the book of Ezra, but also in the book of Esther, and many times, since the first verse of chapter 1 where it is readable:
«Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus…» (see in English Bible);
«Now it came to pass in the days of Artaxerxes …» (see in the Russian Bible).
So what name of the king in days of Esther was? Perhaps as these two names was called the same king? For the answer it is inquirible to the book of Ezra, where unique time (in the Russian Bible) is mentioned Ahasuerus: « And hired ñounsellors against them (against the people Judaic) to frustratå their purpose (Temple construction) all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem. And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote … », Ezra, 4: 5-7. In this place of the Scripture names of four kings are listed: the Cyrus, Darius, Ahasuerus and Artaxerxes. During reign of these kings enemies wrote a denunciation on Jews. As we see, Ahasuerus and Artaxerxes are two different kings. Duration of their governing too the different: so, about Artaxerxes it is told, that he reigned not less than 32 years, Neh.13:6. About ruling time of Ahasuerus it is possible to judge by the text of the book of Esther in the original, and also of English, Ukrainian and other translations of this book of the Bible. From the chronological Table of the book of Esther (see more low) it is visible, that the events, described in it, occurred within 12 years ( under king Ahasuerus). In the Scripture’s original in Jewish in the book of Esther name of Ahasuerus is written: see Esth.1: 1,2,9,10,15-17,19; 2:1,12,16,21; 3:1,6-8,12,15; 6:2, 7:5, 8:1,7,10,12,14; 9:2,20,30; 10:1,3. It is possible to certifay absence of the name of Ahasuerus in the book of Esther in Russian, while in the Scripture’s original (and also in English, an Ukrainian and other translations of the book) it is mentioned 30 times. Misuse of the name «Artaxerxes» in the Russian translation of the book of Esther has led to that all epoch of reign of king Ahasuerus has dropped out of a field of vision almost all Russian-speaking christians, and his existence is called into question. In the given work we restore historical realities of epoch of Esther and we specify time of events of the book of Esther (and time of reign king of Ahasuerus) in mankind history.
